Waterbeds are supported on a pedestal base structure. As well as looking good and being environmentally-sound, a pedestal must also be able to guarantee an odor-free and hassle-free environment.
It is unusual to find formaldehyde-free boards in the stores because they are more expensive. But this is not the only potential problem with a pedestal: a combination of the wrong varnish, oils and stains can produce a potent cocktail of odors when used on a waterbed (liners, fabrics, breathing). Frustration, hassle, complaints and ultimately the purchase of a second pedestal - saving money can end up costing you a lot more. Whether you are thinking of building your own pedestal or choosing a cheaper import or a pre-fitted pedestal, consider first if it is worth the risk!
